Great, my other topic makes me wanna make this one now. Post ideas for equipment here! And because I'm nice and helping you poor saps out, here's some types to choose from:

Weapons:

Tools (psynergy bestowing equipment, also known as Fans)

Add-On (class changing items, also known as Underwear) - only mention the class group it changes you to! Discuss classes in the Class Thread!


...If you have a better name for Add-On, please suggest. I refuse to call them Underwear, though. Also, if you have more ideas for equipment types, do suggest those as well. You're free to come of with other types of weapons, for example.


Also, REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ONLY HAVE FOUR ADDED EFFECTS! The game cannot handle more than that. So if you want an item that improves the power and resistance of all elements, too bad! You'll need to make two to do that.

"But Role! What is this 'unleash type' thing? That wasn't in the old version of this thread!"

First off: Shut up. Of course it was. You just weren't looking hard enough. <_< >_>
Second: This was something that came about thanks to a wonderful idea on balancing unleashes that LBoksha of the GameFAQs forums came up with. This was discussed in the old forum, so head over there to check it out. This lead to the following unleash types--

Original: This type of unleash works just like it did in the original golden sun games. Use this when you don't plan on using unleash balancing.
Bestow: This type of unleash is bestowed as if it were a psynergy, with PP cost and everything. No amount of attacking will trigger it, even with Crit+ equipment.
Hybrid: This type of unleash is bestowed as a psynergy, as well as having a 0% base chance of unleashing on a single target when attacking. With Crit+ equipment, you can have the weapon give a free single-target version of the unleash occasionally when using the attack command.
Dual: This type of unleash has one bestow-type unleash, and a different attack-type unleash. It could have a really strong bestow type and a really weak attack type, so as to discourage abusing Crit+ equipment, or could have two entirely different unleashes. Depending on the type, you may want to vary the unleash rate if you want, but it's recommended to keep it at 0.

I'll be giving examples in the next post, so wait to post until then.

Hiyas, gotsa me some more ideas! Namely, revamped weapon balancing. Remember, this is only something suggested by me. If you have your own balancing formula, go ahead and use that. In fact, if you want, PM me with as much info as you can about it and I'll add it to this post for people to consider!

Axes: +120% Attack Stat, -20% Defense Stat
Spears: +110% Attack Stat, -10% Agility Stat
Long Swords: +100% Attack Stat
Light Blades: +90% Attack Stat, +10% Agility Stat
Scythes: +80% Attack Stat, +20% Defense Stat
Maces: +70% Attack Stat, +30% Maximum PP Stat
Staves: +60% Attack Stat, +40% Elemental Power
Ankhs: +60% Attack Stat, +40% Elemental Resist

There's also a "pseudo-weapon type", Hammers. They are treated as maces as far as game mechanics goes, but the stat ratio is different:

Hammers: +80% Attack Stat, +20% Maximum PP Stat


Also, changing the unleashes. The standard power of the unleash will be added damage, enough to make it 130% base value. Basically, all weapon types have the same damage value when they unleash. For those whom use the Original type of unleash, the rates can also vary, depending on the weapon. Some suggestions are...

Axes: 10%
Spears: 10%
Long Swords: 15%
Light Blades: 20%
Scythes: 20%
Hammers: 20%
Maces: 25%
Staves: 30%
Ankhs: 30%

This allows for the average damage for the weapons to become more balanced.

As such, the overall values are:

UR = Base Unleash Rate

If you want to use the original game's values, then the Base Unleash Rate is 35%, and the unleash power is +35% of the attack power of the weapon as added damage (+X). As such, when you try to figure out the unleash power, multiply the attack power of the weapon by 0.35 to get the value. It's up to you whether to round or cut off the decimal.


Now, for armor, suggestions are as follows:

For the three types of armor, and on top of Defense, they can boost different things --

Heavy Armor: Attack and Max HP
Light Armor: Criticals and Agility
Mage Armor: Luck and Max PP

The boost to the secondary stat should be small. My personal suggestion is +5 for Attack, Criticals, and Luck, and +10 for Max HP, Agility, and Max PP. There's also a pure-defense focus option, which should be +5 defense or so higher than the other options available to make up for the lack of a secondary boost.

This is ignoring any boosts you choose to give the equipment through artifacts. For example, boosts for a Light Armor artifact could give a 1.1x boost to Agility, rather than a +10. For an artifact with an elemental theme, it could boost Power and Resistance for that element. Basically, the same artifact boosts that weapons can get, so to can armor. Try not to allow criticals to be boosted too much, though, because it can become quite the game breaker. Also, if you follow this, I also suggest that you create areas and monsters with this in mind. You may want to try and make players choose to opt for certain types of equipment over others. For example, to cause them to want to choose Mage Armor over Light Armor in a certain area, you could have the enemies in that area use a lot of ailment inducing attacks. If you want them to opt for agility over criticals, you could make enemies hit REALLY hard, and have speed comparable to the 'target level' of the area (or even higher), but have low defense, causing the player to want to hit hard and fast.


For notation:

If it's added damage, use "+##"
If it's a multiplier, use "m##%"
If it's base damage, use "Base ##"
If it's healing, use "c ##"

Remember, the 'chance to multiply damage' is an effect.

Okay, with all that done, feel free to make some equipment!

Yes, it is actually. Same way you make weapons do so: You change the "Multiple Uses" bit to "Bestows Psynergy" and then chose the psynergy to bestow in the "If Used" section. You did it correctly with how you put it for the Luna Armour. Though, I must disagree with the thematics for it, but that's just a me thing. Not to mention you gave it a Turns +1, meaning even if the armor is sub par (which I doubt, since the max Def+ for armor in GS is 50), it becomes so broken it isn't funny. But hey, it's your decision.

Oh, I thought that the highest def in GS2 is 64? In which case I should lower it's defence to 60 or 58.

Nope, IIRC, The Demon Circlet and the Demon Mail (from GS1) tie for 50 Defense (BOTH are cursed), and the highest available for a single piece of armor is 53 for the Valkyrie Mail. Nothing else gets that high.

Hey, is anyone else having issues with the GS emotes showing up? Make sure you go to your preferences to to fix it, because I had issues getting those elemental star bullets showing up until I figured out just how finicky this forum can be.

Although you did not say that we could do this in the template, I would make the Fairy Bow bestow A?? (Arrow) and unleash Vengeance. A?? can be used in battle if we edit it enough... Which reminds me of a very slight psynergy idea/edit.

Yeah, the site made me redo the entire first post. REEEEALY pissed me off, and I've been copying my posts ever since, just in case. I'm thinking about making a hack in which normal Jupiter Adepts are an extinct race, but can still exist by being exposed by huge amounts of Jupiter energy, which changes their forms to bird-like humans. With this, I've decided to come up with two new types of weapons: Talons (claw extensions for the feet) and Beaks (sharp extension for the mouth; usually adds breath ability). This would certainly be an interesting concept on Camelot's part, especially if such adepts existed for other elements as well. Expect this list to expand as I come up with new ideas.

Okay, my latest weapon... The Banana! It also works as a single use item, so I will get that out of the way right now. The description as an item is too long I think, so I will only use the first sentence.

Of course, a new psynergy is required for both the item's use and its unleash. The Banana use psynergy is the same as Apple's but it adds 25 HP instead of 5. The reason why it is this high is because it is also a weapon. The Unleash is the same as Potent Cure, but has the added effect of removing poison. There are no PP costs.
